Piotr Cienciala researches geomorphic, hydrological, and hydraulic processes in rivers and on floodplains, and examines how they influence and are influenced by living organisms. Current projects investigate hydrogeomorphic controls on fish habitat and channel-riparian vegetation dynamics. Other research interests include effects of land use and climate change on the interactions between physical habitat and biota as well as watershed conservation, restoration, and monitoring.
