Application Information
When applying to the Department of Geography, please follow this process:
- Apply via the University of Illinois On-line Application site.
- Send your official General GRE exam scores (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing), and TOEFL score (international students) to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, institution code: 1836.
- Send your academic transcripts directly to the Department of Geography.
- Either upload in the application your statement of purpose or send it directly to the Department of Geography. Your three letters of recommendation may also be sent directly to the Department of Geography, or your references may submit their letter electronically as a part of the on-line application.
- Once your application is complete (steps 1-4), your file will circulate among the members of the department's graduate admissions committee. If your application is competitive and a faculty member agrees to work with you, then we will send you a letter of acceptance. We recommend that you note in your statement of purpose the graduate program that interests you the most, your career goals, and the name(s) of the faculty member(s) with whom you would like to work.
- The department has several admissions-related deadlines of which you should be aware. If you are applying for admission in the Fall semester 2009, a complete application must be received by February 15, 2009. Applicants who want to be considered for finanacial assistance are strongly encouraged to apply by January 15, 2009.
